New Chapters

Moses was 40 when he was called to lead God’s people. Caleb was 80 when he and Joshua led the people into the Promised Land. Timothy was a young guy when God called him and Paul wrote him, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers” (1 Timothy 4:12). Paul himself was between 58 and 60 when he wrote, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Philippians 3:12).

At any point in life, you may be presented with opportunities for change or growth or service or leadership. And I suspect that the more open you are to such things, the more you’ll see them or they’ll come to you.

They may be scary, they may not be. But in them you’ll find personal challenge, growth, and fulfillment. And if God is in it, you’ll also be a developing part of his big picture—the Kingdom of God.

Yet you must make the choice.

Here and now, what new purpose and what new chapter might there be in your life?
_______________

I have now passed the one-year mark after Kim’s ashes were buried October 13, 2025.

So the new chapter for me is that on October 21, I depart for Belize. I will be there for five months and plan to return at the end of March for a few weeks or a month, then go back to Belize another five or six months. And keep doing it as long as God calls me.

I will take on the pastorate of a small church that hasn’t had a pastor for almost seven years. I will teach Bible College students. And I will oversee a preschool. This will largely be volunteer, and I aim to help fund future church leaders and development.

A new purpose / call / task helps a person work through grief. So I get this added benefit in my grief processing. I will carry Kim’s legacy of faith, love, and prayer—as well as my father’s legacy in Africa of pastoring and Bible school teaching.

If you have anyone’s legacy to continue—do it!
